The Visual Artist
"It is only drawing often, drawing everything, drawing incessantly, that one fine day you discover to your surprise that you have rendered something in its true character" - Camille Pissarro

- French Impressionist painter, who endured prolonged financial hardship in keeping faith with the aims of Impressionism
Impressionism - a French 19th century art movement which marked a momentous break from tradition in European painting
- impressionists incorporated new scientific research into the physics of colour to achieve a more exact representation of colour and tone
- a style in which the artist captures the image of an object as someone would see it if they just caught a glimpse of it
- pictures are mostly outdoor scenes
- pictures are bright and vibrant
- most artists using this art movement like to capture images without detail but with bold colours

Design Principles
Hierarchy - The dominant character of this picture would be the greenery of the picture where as the sky, cloud, the cattle and farmer are the complimentary character. Therefore the greenery takes up most of the picture.
Scale
- The painting features objects in different sizes which creates a sense of multi-layered coating and also depth. The objects which are smaller would give an impression that it is further placed towards the back of the picture while the objects which are bigger in size seems to placed nearer to the front. Which is why this picture displays scale perfectly and gives me the impression of spatial depth.
Unity/Variety
- The houses were all placed horizontally to form a feeling of unity and so it would be easier for the eyes of viewers to look and understand the painting.
- In the painting, there is sky (with clouds), greenery, houses, cattle and farmer. There is a unity in there as there is a linkage between all these and it creates visual interest for the viewers.
Design Elements Color - The colour used by the painter in the painting was some soft colours such as green, blue and brown. The painter used colours that were not very outstanding instead uses some environmental type of colours which will make the viewers feel comfortable looking at it. These colours used by the painter are long lasting as viewers will not get bored easily looking at the painting.
"In my opinion, the art that is the most corrupt is sentimental art" - Camille Pissarro
